Most states require a period of training and supervision by a licensed hearing aid specialist (sponsor) before being eligible to take a hearing aid specialist written exam and also a “hands-on” practical licensing exam. Depending on the state or province, the minimum training can range from 6 to 12 months or longer. Most hearing aid practices allow you to work, learn and earn during the required supervision period. In most states the minimal educational requirement is a high school diploma or its equivalent*.
